Reinvestment

Reinvestment is the use of investment income to purchase additional shares of the asset that generated the income. Investment income includes Capital Gain distributions from mutual funds as well as dividend & interest from other asset types, including mutual funds. A Reinvestment generates a tax liability, but a Reinvestment also increases the Cost Basis of the given investment.
